Davis Beach did not marry until June 24, 1871, at age 36. His bride was 21 year-old Susan Jane "Jennie" Thomas, the daughter of Isaiah and Martha (Dallas) Thomas of Wetmore, Nemaha County, Kansas. The descendant of a prominent Quaker family, she was born October 28, 1849, in Noble County, Indiana. Davis Beach met Jennie when she was visiting with relatives in Michigan. The photo below was taken sometime after an attack of scarlet fever had forced Jennie to have her hair cut short.
