The Leonard family of Highland traces its ancestry back to Silas Leonard, who was born 1746 and served in the American Revolution.  In 1798 his sons - Silas, Jr., Lewis and Jonathan Leonard - left Connecticut and settled in Parma, Monroe County, New York.  It is said the elder Silas also intended to relocate, but died before he could make the journey.  On the other hand, there is a gravestone for Silas, Sr. in Parma's Atchinson Cemetery, which clearly indicates he is buried there.   It is possible the family relocated his remains after becoming established in New York.
