BACK TO THE FAMILY PHOTO ALBUM PAGE The photo below shows J. C. Leonard in his "Cartercar." This was a brand of automobiles made by the Cartercar Company of Pontiac, Michigan between 1906 and 1916. The Cartercar was unique in using a "friction drive" rather than a geared transmission. The company became a part of General Motors in 1909, but disappointing sales caused the brand to be dropped. The model shown below originally had no front doors, so J. C. Leonard hired Bill Babcock of Highland to make and install them.
