James D. and Helen (Putnam) Rowe had four children: (i) Grant S. Rowe, born August 2, 1865, at Brownstown, Michigan; died October 14, 1939, at Milford, Michigan; (ii) James Burton Rowe, born August 30, 1869, at Ypsilanti, Michigan and later lived in Detroit; (iii) Lois Bertha Rowe, born August 24, 1871; m. Howard Lewis; and (iv) George L. Rowe, born November 7, 1878, and lived in Casper, Wyoming.
The eldest son, Grant S. Rowe, married circa 1896, Carrie Jackson, daughter of Isaac Pratt and Ann (Simpson) Jackson, born December 25, 1866, in Detroit, Michigan; died October 31, 1949, at Milford, Michigan. Carrie (Jackson) Rowe had inherited the Milford Times newspaper from her father, which he had started in 1871. Following her marriage she and her husband became joint owners and published the paper until they retired in 1935, turning management over to their son, Robert Grant Rowe. Carrie (Jackson) Rowe is seen in the photo below, standing between James D. and Helen (Putnam) Rowe.
