Original Highland Township Landowner William Arthur(s) While his patent clearly spells his last name as "Arthurs," this is William Arthur, son of David and Elizabeth (Arthur) Authur, who settled in Section 7 of White Lake Township, Oakland County, in 1834. Note that David Authur's patents for his own land in White Lake also add a final "s" to his name. David's father, William Arthur, came from Ireland to New Jersey. He later lived for a time in Pennsylvania before coming by wagon and team through Ohio to Michigan. He married his cousin, Elizabeth Arthur, by whom he had seven children. At least one account claims the family to be cousins of President Chester A. Arthur. |
