Lester Burnett and his brothers, James and Jonathan Burnett, were early settlers in Livingston County, Michigan.   One account says they came from St. Lawrence County, New York, while another claims Jonathan Burnett "is a Connecticut man by birth, though Tompkins Co., N.Y. was his home before emigrating to Michigan..."  Lester and James settled in Hamburg Township circa 1832-33, while Jonathan came a year or so later and settled in Green Oak Township.  In 1836, however, Lester Burnett elected to relocate to Highland, buying land in Section 21 in 1836.  The following year he sold his holdings in Hamburg.  Lester Burnett appears on the 1845 Michigan State Census for Highland, but must have died soon thereafter since only his widow, Olive, and sons Wellington and Edward appear on the 1850 Census for Highland.
