Original Highland Township Landowner

Amos Camp

W 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Section 22

This man is likely Amos Camp, born December 11, 1814, at Whitesboro, Oneida County, New York, the son of Amos and Martha (Wright) Camp.  In addition to his purchase in Section 22 of Highland Township, Oakland County, Michigan, he also received patents for land in Holly and Springfield Townships, Oakland County.   All such purchases appear to have been investments, however, since Amos Camp had or would soon move to Sangamon County, Illinois, where he married March 3, 1836, Euphemia McClellan.  He died at Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois, on February 16, 1876.   There is no evidence he ever settled in Michigan; much less in Highland Township.
