Original Highland Township Landowner

Elijah Clary

SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 1         SE pt of NW F. 1/4 of Section 1

Little is known about this man beyond his name and the fact his patent gives his residence as Steuben County, New York.  He is probably the Elijah Clary who appears on a list of members of the Congregational Church in Prattsburgh, Steuben County, in 1830.  First Land Owners of Oakland County gives "Eliza" as an alternate reading of his first name, but inspection of the actual patent clearly shows it to be "Elijah."  An Orlando Clary, age 26, appears on the 1850 Census for White Lake Township, but it is unclear if he is related to this man.  There is no evidence that Elijah Clary ever settled on his purchases in Highland Township.
