Elias Cowles

N pt of NE F. 1/4 of Section 6         N 1/2 of NE 1/4 of Section 18

Elias Cowles was born March 23, 1796, at Great Plains, Farmington County, Connecticut, the son of Jesse and Anna (Hart) Cowles.  He married January 11, 1824, Almira Billings, who died April 13, 1895, at 81 years, 6 months, 3 days.  Elias Cowles himself died February 3, 1884.  Both are buried at West Highland Cemetery, Highland Township, Michigan.  The patent issued to him on May 5, 1837 includes both the N part of the NE Fraction 1/4 of Section 6 and the N 1/2 of the NE 1/4 of Section 18.  The actual patent gives the total acreage for both parcels as 197.92 acres, whereas First Land Owners of Oakland County says 117.92 acres.
