Original Highland Township Landowner Curtiss, William SW pt of NW F. 1/4 of Section 1 Nothing is known about this man beyond his name and the fact his patent gives his residence as Oakland County, Michigan. Note that First Land Owners of Oakland County spells his last name as "Curtis," i.e., with only one "s." A William W. Curtiss, born circa 1826, appears on the 1850 Census for Rose Township, but would appear too young to be the one who purchased land in in Highland in 1836. |
