Daniel Dunham was born circa 1804, the son of Ebenezer and Anne/Hannah (Denne) Dunham of Mayfield, New York.   He is said to have served in the War of 1812 and married Harriet Sturtevant of Saratoga County, New York.  The couple lived near other members of the Dunham family at Parma, Monroe County, New York, until 1832 when Daniel, along with his brothers Elijah and Jacob S. Dunham, came to Highland Township.

Daniel Dunham lived in Highland until 1858 when he sold his property and moved to Caledonia, Kent County, Michigan.  There he died in 1870.  His widow, Harriet (Sturtevant) Dunham, was still living as of 1891 when mentioned in a biography of her son, Daniel C. Dunham, published that year.  See: Portrait and Biographical Album of Oakland County, Michigan, Chapman Bros. (1891), pp. 388-389.
