Original Highland Township Landowner

Reuben H. Haines (Haynes)

NW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 21         NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 21

Little is known about this man beyond his name and the fact his patent gives his residence as Livingston County, Michigan.  He is probably the same as Reuben Haines, born 1792 in New York or Canada, who married Mary Cole on June 8, 1819, at Hatley, Quebec.  That couple later settled in Milford, Oakland County, Michigan, where they appear on the 1850 Census under the name "Haynes."  Mary (Cole) Haines died on April 4, 1881, at age 81 years, 9 months, 23 days and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Milford.  One daughter, Rosanna Haines, married Joseph Frost Stratton, while another, Mahala Haines, married Joseph Lanning; both of whom were likewise original Highland Township landowners.
