Original Highland Township Landowner Orrin (Orin) H. Harding Little is known about this man beyond his name and the fact his patent gives his residence as Oakland County, Michigan. He is undoubtedly the same, however, as the Orrin (sometimes "Orin") H. Harding of Niagara County, New York, who purchased land in the southwest quarter of Section 14, Howell Township, Livingston County, Michigan, on September 8, 1835. He sold this parcel the following year, only to make a series of purchases in Oakland County between June 27 and November 16, 1836, i.e., 80 acres in Section 35 of Highland Township, Oakland County; 160 acres in Sections 8 and 18 of Milford Township, Oakland County; and 200 acres in Sections 8, 17 and 22 of Commerce Township, Oakland County. In the process his residence changed from Niagara County, New York, to Oakland County, Michigan; suggesting he relocated to Michigan during that year. There is no evidence, however, he ever settled on his purchase in Highland Township. |
