Original Highland Township Landowner John Kinney Little is known about this man beyond his name and the fact his patent gives his residence as Washtenaw County, Michigan. A John Kinney appears on the 1845 Michigan State Census and 1850 Federal Census of Webster, Washtenaw County, but the latter indicates he was born circa 1823 and so too young to have purchased land in 1836. It is possible the John Kinney who purchased land in Highland Township, Oakland County, is in some way related to William Kinney, born July 14, 1787, son of Henry and Sybil (Tracey) Kinney who was an early settler in Hartland, Livingston County, Michigan. Thus far, however, no connection has been found. |
