Daniel Major Lockwood was born March 30, 1801, at Sand Lake, New York, the son of Major and Martha (Wheeler) Lockwood.  He married March 16, 1829, Eunice _____, born January 20, 1803.  Soon after the couple came to Highland Township, Oakland County, Michigan, where both were original landowners.  Daniel appears on the 1840 Census for Highland as "D.M. Lockwood."  He served several terms as a justice of the peace for Highland Township and was one of the founders of the Highland Methodist Episcopal Church.  He died at Rose Township, Oakland County, on July 11, 1847, while his wife Eunice died January 25, 1867.  Both are buried at West Highland Cemetery.
