Major Ferris Lockwood

Major Ferris Lockwood was born January 22, 1813, at Rensselaer County, New York, the son of Major and Martha (Wheeler) Lockwood.  He came to Highland with other members of his family and soon after married first, September 3, 1843, Florinda Baker.  He married second, September 3, 1843, at White Lake Township, Mary Annis Dunham, born September 22, 1822, the daughter of Jacob and Catherine Dunham.   Major F. Lockwood served as a 1st Lieutenant Colonel in the 9th Michigan Cavalry under the command of his nephew, Theodorus Wheeler Lockwood.  He was killed at Stone Mountain, Georgia, on October 1, 1864, and is buried at the national cemetery in Marietta, Georgia.
