Original Highland Township Landowner Garret I. Simonson SW 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 10 Garret I. Simonson was born January 29, 1794, in Delaware County, New York, the son of John B. and Polly (Bradford) Simonson. He married Sarah P. Stephens in 1820 and in 1832 settled in Royal Oak Township, Oakland County, Michigan, where he appears on the 1850 Census. Note that his actual patent for land in Highland Township, Oakland County, gives his middle initial as "J." and it is so indexed by the Bureau of Land Management - General Land Office web site. First Land Owners of Oakland County, as well as other old histories, however, show his middle initial was "I.". |
