Original Highland Township Landowner James Wardlow James Wardlow was born in Ireland in 1800 and came to America at age 26. He initially settled in New York City where he worked eleven years as a marble cutter. Here he married Elizabeth McGhee. In 1837, however, the couple removed to Michigan and took up 80 acres of land in the northeast quarter of Section 14. James Wardlow was struck by a falling tree and died on January 5, 1852, at age 51 years, 1 month, 10 days. See the Wardlow Family Photo Album for more on this family. Note that his actual patent spells his last name as "Wardlaw." |
