Original Highland Township Landowner

Walter Wright

SW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 35

Little is known about this man beyond his name and the fact his patent gives his residence as Oakland County, Michigan.  He is likely the brother or other relation of Reuben Wright, born circa 1805, who came from Orleans County, New York, and settled on Section 11 of Commerce Township, Oakland County, in 1832.  Some years later "Walter Wright and Reuben Wright of Oakland County, Michigan" were issued a patent for 40 acres in Section 1, Commerce Township.  Assuming the two men were related, Walter Wright's purchase in Section 35 of Highland Township may have been prompted by its proximity to Commerce Township to the south and east.  Whether Walter Wright ever settled on his parcel is unclear.  He does not appear, however, on any Highland census.
