This photo shows how the intersection of Milford and Livingston Roads looked in the late 1950's and early 1960s.  The view is looking south down Milford Road.  At the far left is the front of the old Hulbert/Atley store.  The white, two story building behind the cement mixer was a truck garage operated by Roy Burley.  For many years this intersection had the only 3-position (red-yellow-green) traffic light in all of Highland Township; an artifact of the days when Livingston Road was the main route between Pontiac and Howell.  Incredible as it now seems, the intersection of Milford Road and M-59 only had a "blinker"  until the mid-1960's, flashing yellow for through traffic on M-59 and red for cross traffic on Milford Road.
