In 1875 a Christian Association was formed by members of different Protestant denominations in Highland Station which, in 1881, built a church on the northeast corner of Centre (Milford Road) and Ruggles Streets, for use by the different denominations on alternate Sundays.  In 1884, however, members of the association with Congregational leanings elected to join that denomination, while the Methodists built their own church building on West Livingston Road.  When the 1881 church burned down in February, 1887, the Congregationalists shared the new Methodist Church while a new building could be built.  This second structure, pictured below, was completed by the end of August, 1887.
