In the fall of 1870 Henry H. Bush built Highland Station's first hotel - the "Highland Centre House" - on the southwest corner of Centre Street (Milford Road) and Livingston Road. Bush sold the business to Patrick Kelly, who operated it for the next several years. It later became known as the Cranston House when Thomas L. Cranston and his wife, Catherine (Kinney) Cranston, became its proprietors. At the time Cranston also owned the Planter House, another hotel east of the railroad. By 1900 the building served as both the residence and office of Dr. Samuel L. Weisbrod, who practiced in Highland from 1899 to 1909 . It thereafter became the home of Frank S. Keller, who owned the store diagonally across Centre Street. The building still stands (2009) and is now known as the "Highlander House," serving as office space. This photo shows the building looking southwest.
