On Mar 16, 1981, the former Methodist Episcopal Church of Highland Station was added to the Michigan Register of Historic Places. Several months later, on July 9, 1981, it earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. A Michigan State Historic Marker was erected in front of the building on August 12, 1988. The old church continued to serve as the Highland Township Public Library until June, 2002, when the library moved to new facilities in municipal complex off M-59. Since that time the building - now known as the Highland Station House - has served as a gallery for the Huron Valley Arts Council, office space for the Highland Downtown Development Authority, and as a meeting hall for the Highland Township Historical Society and other civic groups.
