In January, 1906, sparks from a passing locomotive started a fire which consumed both the Needhams' new home and factory. The family moved into a smaller home on the property and, within two months, had built a new factory building. Two years later, in 1908, son Thomas Needham purchased a frame house in Michigan's Upper Peninsula which was dismantled, shipped to Highland and rebuilt on the site of the one which had burned. This new home and factory are depicted in the photo below.
