On January 10, 1928, a fire destroyed the 1860's school. It was replaced by a second wood-frame building, modeled after the Bird School, and included a separate library room. When the district schools were consolidated into the Highland Township School in the late 1930's, however, this second West Highland School building was moved to Highland Station where it served for many years as the "Kindergarten Cottage." The photo below shows the building being raised in preparation for moving. For more on the history of this school after its move visit HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP SCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN COTTAGE.
