Elias Samuel DeGarmo, another son of A.D. DeGarmo, attended Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) for one year before returning home to help on his father's farm.  He subsequently spent several years in Toledo, Ohio, where he was employed in the banking business.  He returned to Michigan, however and on February 16, 1911, married Helen B. Weaver, the daughter of John Nelson and Katherine Weaver.  The couple would have two children: (i) June Katherine DeGarmo, born June 9, 1913, and (ii) Nelson DeGarmo, born October 14, 1914.  In 1911 Elias Samuel DeGarmo also established the DeGarmo Lumber Company in the Village of Milford.  The business proved successful and its office on the southwest corner of Main and Liberty Street was a local landmark for many years.   It can been seen as the white building on the left in this photo taken during Milford's Centennial Celebration in 1932.  Elias Samuel DeGarmo died in 1953.   His wife Helen passed away on September 21, 1969.
