The Kunkel family - cousins of the Huffs - had come from Germany in 1872 and settled in Spring Mills, See: The Kunkel Family Album.  The Huffs later determined to join them and left their home in Sarbia, Province of Posen, on May 5, 1891.  Embarking at Hamburg, they crossed the North Sea to Hartlepool, England, then travelled by train to Liverpool, where the family took passage on a liner to Philadephia, eventually arriving by train at Highland Station on May 27, 1891.  Three months later they purchased the former Stratton home in Spring Mills.  The house, seen here, was one of three homes built by Major F. Lockwood and Jonas G. Porter after they platted the village in 1846.
