Jonathan Clark Leonard, the son was Harvey and Hannah (Clark) Leonard, was born at Highland on July 17, 1837, and was only ten years old when orphaned by his mother's death in 1848. For two years he lived with his uncle William H. Leonard, then another two years with his uncle Jason Leonard. He also worked two years for his brother, William E. Leonard, who was a fisherman at Port Huron. Having reached adulthood, however, he returned to Highland and commenced improving the parental farm in Section 15, seen in the old photo below.
