This photo of the Highland House dining room gives a sense of how elegant the accomodations were by the standards of the day. The hotel was especially popular with vacationers from Detroit or Flint, who could travel to Highland by rail, stay at the hotel for a week or two, and rent a horse or carriage at the livery to visit Highland's many lakes where they could boat, swim or fish.
