Original Highland Township Landowner

John Corliss

NE 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 15
SE 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 15

Little is yet known about this man, except that there is no evidence he ever actually lived in Highland Township.  He may be the same as the John Corliss who appears on the 1845 Michigan State Census for Troy, Oakland County, Michigan, age 45 < 75.  Note also the John Corliss, Jr., son of John and Isabel (Tefft) Corliss of Saratoga, New York, who was born February 12, 1801; died January 9, 1868; and married Mary Wickham.  This John, Jr. had a son, John Sherwood Corliss, who enlisted at Ottawa County in the 2nd Michigan Cavalry, Company 3, See: Augustus Whittemore Corliss, A Genealogical Record of the Corliss Family of America, Yarmouth, Maine (1875), pp. 55-56; 117-118.  The names, ages and Michigan connection are consistent with this being the same family.
