Original Highland Township Landowner James Ellis SE 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 18 James Ellis was born circa 1808 in New York and married Tryphosa Hayward by whom he had six children. The family came to Michigan circa 1850 and settled in Highland Township, Oakland County, where they appear on the 1850 Census. They subsequently moved to Novi, Oakland County, where Tryphosa (Hayward) Ellis died September 7, 1877. James Ellis himself died at Novi on August 24, 1893. Their daughter, Phylena Ellis, married Daniel C. Dunham, the son of Highland pioneer Daniel Dunham. |
