Original Highland Township Landowner Anthony J. Orr NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Section
2 SE 1/4 of
the SE 1/4 of Section 2 According to a post to the Orr family message board at Ancestry.com, http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.orr/3708/mb.ashx, Anthony J. Orr was born 1801 in either New York or New Jersey. He married in 1824 Ann Marie Martin who was born 1805 in New York. The family initially settled in Highland, where Anthony J. Orr appears on the 1840 Census, but later removed to Wisconsin. Note that while First Land Owners of Oakland County gives Anthony J. Orr of Erie Co., New York, as purchasing 80 acres in Section 2 on June 4, 1836, the on-line records of the Bureau of Land Management - General Land Office contain no corresponding patent. Looking at the portions of Section 2 bought by Davis, Hurlburt, Parsons and Tompkins, however, both the NW 1/4 of the SE 1/4 and the SE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 are unaccounted for. Since these would total 80 acres they are likely the lands Orr purchased. |
