Original Highland Township Landowner Erastus Underwood NW 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Section 14 E 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Section 15 NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of Section 15 Erastus Underwood was born November 12, 1804, the son of Evander/Vander and Jerusha (Wood) Underwood of Freetown, Cortland County, New York. He married circa 1829 Laura a/k/a Lura Holmes, daughter of Roswell Holmes, a Revolutionary veteran. The family soon after came to Highland where Erastus Underwood appears on the 1840 Census.
