Sidney W. Hulbert was born Apr 22, 1874, in Livonia, New York.  In 1886 his maternal uncle, Eugene B. Wilhelm, asked Sid's father, James Hulbert, to come to Highland to manage the store Wilhelm had bought on the northeast corner of Centre Street (Milford Road) and Livingston Road.  Following his father's death in 1899 Sidney took over the business, setting up a store in the Seaver building across the street, which he operated until 1920.  He later owned and operated a Sinclair filling station on the west side of Centre Street, north of Livingston Road, and served as Highland Township Clerk for twenty-seven years.  He died Oct 11, 1952, at age 78.
