U. Sidney Beach, Jr. graduated from the University of Michigan and thereafter taught for many years in the Wyandott Public Schools.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, then worked for Ford Motor Company at the Milford and Wixom plants.  Sidney spent his summers and other free time in Highland, working on the parental farm.  In the 1930's he started planting pines and other evergreens on the family property, both north and south of what is now M-59.  Later, after retirement, he started the Beach Tree Farm nursery, growing and selling a wide variety of trees and shrubs.  Sidney was a life-long member of the Highland Methodist Church, serving as treasurer, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir.  He was also an original member and secretary of the Highland Township Planning Commission.  A bachelor, Sidney died at his home on March 4, 1982, at age 77, and is buried beside his parents in Highland Cemetery.
