Eugene and Ruby Beach returned to the Washington, D.C. area in 1953, where Dr. Beach resumed his work at the U.S. Naval Ordnance Laboratory. He served as Chief of the Underwater Electrical Engineering Department and later Associate Technical Director of the laboratory before retiring in 1980. An internationally recognized expert in underwater weaponry, Dr. Beach was the recipient of three Navy Meritorious Civil Service Awards, as well as the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award. He died on December 9, 2007, and is buried in Highland Cemetery beside his parents and siblings.
