Enos Leek, one of the earliest and most prominent residents of Spring Mills, was born September 25, 1805, in  Handen, Connecticut.  He came to Michigan in 1828, settling in Washtenaw County, but in 1836 removed to Highland Township, where he married Rebecca Stratton, daughter of Jonathan F. and Ruth (Foster) Stratton.   In the fall of 1856 Leek took up residence in Spring Mills, where he ran a small store in the office of the grist mill.  When the Spring Mills post office was established in 1857 Leek was appointed its first and only post master; serving continiously until January 1, 1874, when the post office was moved to Highland Station.  In 1858 Leek built a combined residence, store and post office on Lot 25, Block 3, just south and across Harvey Lake Road from the grist mill.  Here he lived until his death on February 20, 1881.  In addition to serving as storekeeper and post master at Spring Mills, Leek also held the offices of township supervisor, clerk and justice of the peace for many years.  Julia Leek, the daughter of Enos and Rebecca (Stratton) Leek, is seen here feeding chickens on the south side of the home and store her father built in 1858.   Never married, she was a charter member of the Highland Congregational Church and active in the Missionary Society.  Julia Leek died in 1910.
