1/4 of Section 14 Silas Leonard, Jr. was born 1779 in Connecticut, the son of Silas and Mary (Hackett) Leonard and younger brother of Capt. Jonathan Leonard. He moved with his parents to Parma, Monroe County, New York, circa 1798 and is believed to have remained there until his death. Like his brother Jonathan and some other members of the Leonard family, his purchases of land in Highland appear to have been made as investments. Note the apparent error in Silas Leonard's patent No. 22752 for land in Section 15. The actual patent describes him as buying (among other parcels) the "North West Quarter of the South West Quarter of Section 15." This conflicts, however, with patent No. 13489 previously issued to his nephew, Harvey Leonard, for the "West Half of the South West Quarter" of Section 15. Looking at all the other patents for land in Section 15 it seems clear that Silas Leonard's grant was actually for the northwest quarter of the southeast quarter, which is otherwise not claimed.
