This detailed map from F. W. Beers and Co., Atlas of Oakland
County, Michigan (1872), shows that the community once boasted a shoe shop
["S.Sh.] and store run by Thomas Storms, a post office [with Alva Stockwell,
postmaster], a wagon shop and three blacksmith shops ["B.Sh" or
"B.S.Sh."] The same year this map was published, however, Highland Station
would be established two miles to the east along the Flint & Pere Marquette
Railroad. Within the space of just a few years Durant's 1877 history of Highland
would report that "The village at Highland Station has
superseded the old village of Highland Corners.
